…Just another white boy with a blog about geeking out and living life.

Well I’m married now! Back off the honeymoon and well into the working week back in the office.
The Wedding was fantastic, we had a really chilled day and people kept saying it was the most easy going relaxed wedding they’d ever been too and that is exactly what K and I hoped for. The Mashup Party mix I did went down a storm, the Hungarians went mental when the Republic and Edda songs came on (You’re welcome,by the way) to the delight of the English crowd, who to their credit joined in even though they didn’t have a clue what they were singing!
Budapest was cold and lovely, with the regular exception of the check-out staff, they just never seem happy and it’s always a bit unwelcoming when you get an unfriendly check-out girl.
Eger was even colder but the welcome was considerably warmer as you might imagine from countryside folk. We went wine tasting at the Siké Tamas wine cellar which was superb and we even had a private tour of the Eger castle when we finally got up there, and in English too!
Now we are back in the UK and things are turning in a more administrative direction, sorting out bills and furniture and what-not, but it’s still an adventure, or at least that’s how I’m looking at it. The main thing is that I’m with my wife and every seems easier that way.
You know the self scan tills in TESCO? Turns out the trick is, not to put your stuff in the bag until you pay. Just put your shopping on the metal plate/scale thing and bam, no errors, I had a completely hassle-free check out this morning!
…In your FACE, weight based technology, I shall always be smarter than you!
Well today, I have one of those rare days at home with the folks without my Lady (sad face) that has actually been planned for me to put the music mixes together for the Wedding Reception. So I’ve got my software up and my track listing done so now I just need to get going on the mixing, splicing, and hopefully humorous DJ inserts for the legitimacy feel, wish me luck!
…With only 38 days left to go, that is how things have become rather quickly during the lead up to our wedding. Quite a few admin based housekeeping things I need to do before the big day and the honeymoon. I won’t lie to you, there are things I could have done sooner, but when you’re in the thick of a situation like this, with let’s face it, as much uncertainty as we have (in regard to both housing and enployment) are facing, well the stress does tend to sneak in the back door and floor you.
But things are happening, maybe the slow pace they’re happening to teach us to be patient, and if so, I am in class, ready to learn but sure it will be unsettling until I see the result of the equation. In addition to my own conclusions, the good old book would have me endowed with a good deal more discipline to prioritise these last few tasks. So what I think I’ll do is create a slight accountablility and list what I need to do.
- Travel related tasks
- One for me
- One for her
- Career related tasks
- Negotiate out hours & fees
- Create training programme and define methods
- Accommodation related tasks
- Arrange viewings
- Find a suitable house/apartment and move in
- Have fun getting married and going on holiday
So, I shall strikethrough the tasks I’ve done in edits as and when.

…I am about to be a married man. To be more precise, in 39 days. It has been an very character building year considering that about a month after my lady and I got engaged, the recession hit and things started looking pretty bad for people foolish enough to fall in love and commit to each other but we did it anyway and we not shifted the agreed date once.
We have given ourselves one year from the engagement date (4/12/2008), and all our planning has been done, and has to be done prior to the 4th of December this year, because the next day, we’ll be saying “I do” among other things like “What the heck are we going to do with 12 bread makers!?”
But what I have realised lately is how much growing up it has made us both tackle, both emotionally and mentally, dealing with each other and dealing with our past experiences and confronting the challenges ahead. For instance, right now, we don’t have feesible permanent jobs or a place to live, which is a little stressful as you might imagine. The stress shows up sometimes in conversation, and lately it’s shown up physically, but we will not give in to it because we know we are meant to be together and there is no point in delaying that from happening.
During my engagement, I have had people say things to me like “You’re mad, I thought you had more sense than that!” or “You know there’s no financial incentive to get married don’t you?” and to be honest, that’s very sad. My lady and I have waited -she more patiently than I- a long time for the right person and for a while I gave up that search but now we have met each other, we cannot wait anymore than these last 39 days that’s for sure.
…and will be.
